The Mathmatically Correct Substack Thumbnail.
I’ve been Thinking About, Thinking About this for a while…
months, even. (mostly for my own internal use)
Today we finally got around to it… I present to you— The Most Perfect, Satisfying, & Energetically Infused Thumbnail / Video Aspect Ratios.
This is not battle-tested yet. However…
I Am absolutely sure, it’s ready to be shared.
Lettuce Begin.
The Golden Ratio (φ Phi) is the mathematically perfect form that permeates our reality.
So why shouldn’t we honor it and draw from its energy with our intentional social media inputs?
Nature’s already given us the key;
Why not use it?
🔸 Substack’s Ratio
The big problem with Substack is that when you upload a 1080p video, the thumbnail preview gets skewed when you start previewing the content so I figure abiding by their 14:10 aspect ratio will make that more intuitive.
The Perfect Substack Thumbnail Ratio:
[14:10] 1920x1371 (Slightly Taller 1080p)

It’s good practice on Substack to upscale your images. They compress thumbnails by default, so upscaling ensures your image will stay sharp.
🔹 My New Default
There’s no Real problem with modern aspect ratios, but non-comforming ones tell a unique story. On YT desktop and mobile, the videos play in whatever canvas shape you choose
Perfect Golden Ratio Large: [16:10] φ
3K (4Ks Too Big) 3072x1899 𖥑 39/12/3
1080p (Equivalent) 1792x1107 𖥑 28/10/1
4:3 is a really nostalgic aspect ratio, but the one I’ve chosen to align with is this one that emulates the Fibonacci sequence.
I Suggest You Highlight & Restack Whatever Ratio That You Actually Want To Use So You Don’t Forget.
